What is the difference between Tirzepatide and Semaglutide?  They both help you lose weight, but Tirzepatide is a bit more effective. In a 72-week study, Semaglutide patients lost 13.7% of their body weight, while Tirzepatide patients lost 20.2% of their body weight.

GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists give health benefits well beyond weight loss and glycemic control.

  • Cardiovascular Protection

A meta-analysis of 99,599 patients found that GLP-1s significantly reduce Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events, cardiovascular mortality, all-cause mortality, heart attack, stroke, and heart failure hospitalization, with benefits consistent across patients with or without diabetes, obesity, CKD, or heart failure.

  • Kidney Protection

In the FLOW trial Semaglutide reduced major kidney disease events by 24%, reduced cardiovascular death by 29%, and reduced all-cause death by 20% in patients with T2D and CKD.

  • Liver Disease (MASH/MASLD)

Tirzepatide demonstrated striking benefits in the SYNERGY-NASH trial: at 52 weeks, MASH resolution in 44–62% of tirzepatide-treated patients vs 10% with placebo

  • Obstructive Sleep Apnea

In the SURMOUNT-OSA trials, tirzepatide reduced the apnea-hypopnea index by 20–24 events/hour more than placebo, with approximately 50% of patients achieving disease remission or non-symptomatic OSA.

  • Anti-Inflammatory Effects

A meta-analysis found that GLP-1s consistently reduce CRP, reduce oxidative stress markers (MDA), and increase adiponectin in patients with T2D. Tirzepatide specifically reduced IL-6 levels significantly.

  • Neuroprotection and Dementia Risk Reduction

Emerging evidence suggests GLP-1s may reduce dementia risk. A pooled post hoc analysis of three cardiovascular outcome trials showed a 53% reduction in dementia incidence with GLP-1s vs placebo.
